We believe each horse is an individual and work on the most basic fundamental principles of patience, careful management alongside a varied work program. A show jumper reaches potential from the age of 8 and the production of the horse to this point is a long, often frustrating but ultimately rewarding process. There should be no short cuts and at Puttenham we cut no corners, we take the time to let each horse show a character and try to create a lifestyle to help them love their job.
Our yard is situated in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, which means our horses have the best environment, from hacking around the beautiful hills to schooling in our lovely arena in the open countryside or canter work around our fields. Our location means we are surrounded by a variety of excellent national show centers and being close to Dover means we can travel internationally just as easily.
We currently have a variety of younger and older horses developing under our care, some of which are homebreds and others that have been bought as youngsters. We look for good bloodlines, ability and, very importantly, temperament.
A testament to our early work at Puttenham is the brilliant mare Wembley III who has set her stamp on the business. She achieved many consistent successes to include 2nd in the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses as a five year old, 3rd in the HOYS six-year-old championship and 2nd in the HOYS Foxhunter as a seven-year-old. In 2013 we bred from Wembley as we hope to continue her great bloodlines and ability onto the next generation.
