The weather suddenly changed and we were faced with rain. Bucks County Show became a quagmire, wellies were dug out of the cupboard, umbrellas dusted, barbours and coats found. Tractors towed horse boxes into the showground and out again. Wonderful Britain and the joys of holding an event. The ground to hard or too soft or just mud logged. A nightmare for the organisers. I wish I had taken a photograph of Camilla and I eating our picnic in the drizzle – the horses left at home – our lovely neighbour Margaret handing out pork pie and tumblers of wine as we sat in the disabled carpark in deck chairs remembering that only a week ago we were in t shirts and shorts and flip flops under a bright blue sky.
Summer is coming to an end as we move into glorious sunny days and chilly evenings and the evenings draw in.
