It was lovely to have horses competing at Royal Windsor this year. However, encouraging family and friends to watch the young horse classes is a losing battle. The foxhunter started at 7 am and the 6 year old class the following day at 7.45. However 2 colleagues from The Peter Cundill Foundation joined me on Wednesday encouraged by promises of large flasks of hot coffee and bacon baps and a lot of warm clothing. To Loppy and Judy who said photos please here they are. I have to say you could count on one hand the audience! It would be lovely to encourage a wider audience and interest in young horses in Great Britain. There are some great producers and breeders and you will find some of our top show jumpers quietly bringing out their future stars. Hugely interesting to follow their progress and their breeding lines but somehow the interest is not sparked or maybe it is just the 7 am start? Is it too much or too dull to have a more fullsome commentary – perhaps a waste with no one to commentate to. Chicken and egg.
